In the "Whoops, Our Bad" department...
Feb. 3rd, 2005 12:57 pmDid anyone else notice that earlier this week, the state of Connecticut was accidently ordered to evacuate?
Apparently they were trying to test their emergency broadcast system, but somebody pressed the wrong button. So instead of tv and radio stations doing the standard "BEEEEEEEEEP... This is a test blah blah blah," Connecticut's tv and radio stations issued an emergency alert, that everybody needed to evacuate the state within the hour.
Which leads me to wonder, among other things, why they have that button in the first place. Seriously, under what conceivable scenario would the entire state need to empty, within an hour -- and where would they expect everybody to go? Are they suggesting that somehow the entire state of Connecticut would become explosively dangerous, but once you get yourself into New York or Massachusetts everything will be fine?
Gee, thank goodness we've got a Homeland Security Department. Otherwise I might feel a little insecure.
